SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT Full TV Anime to Run for 8 Episodes Starting in January 2027, New Visual Revealed

The full SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT TV anime will begin in January 2027 with a total of eight episodes, with a new key visual revealed.

The TV series will be reconstructed around the story shown in the currently screening SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT film, while adding numerous new episodes, scenes and cuts that were not included in the theatrical version. The theatrical edition got a three-week limited theatrical run in Japan.

According to the production team, the project was originally developed as an eight-episode TV series. During production, however, the staff decided that they wanted audiences to first experience the anime’s visuals and sound on a theater screen, leading to the advance release of an edited theatrical version.

ARCH shared the following full statement:

Whether you have already seen the film or will be experiencing this work for the first time through the TV series, we hope you will look forward to it.”

“The film SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT has gone beyond its originally planned three-week limited theatrical run, and thanks to the tremendous support from everyone, an expanded theatrical release has been decided.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made the trip to theaters.

This project originally began as an eight-episode TV series.

However, as production progressed, our desire grew stronger to have audiences first experience the overwhelming visuals and sound of this work on a theater screen, so we decided to release an edited film version in advance.

We apologize for not having previously informed everyone that the film currently in theaters is an edited version, or about the existence of the TV series.

The TV series, which has been structured to include scenes and cuts not included in the film, will be released weekly as a work that follows the story depicted in the film while offering a different experience and its own appeal.

The anime is being produced by studio Qzil.la, which is known for working with numerous AI technologies and projects. This caused a part of the audience to believe that the anime adaptation would itself utilize generative AI, which prompted an official statement from the production committee to confirm there will be ‘no generative AI’ used.
