Kagurabachi Anime Casts Yuichi Nakamura as Soshiro Azami, New Character Trailer and Visual Revealed

Written by Marko Jovanovic

KAGURABACHI anime has cast Yuichi Nakamura as Soshiro Azami, introducing the character with a new visual and dedicated trailer. Nakamura’s casting joins the previously announced main cast ahead of the anime’s April 2027 premiere.

Studio Cypic is in charge of the animation production, with Tetsuya Takeuchi as the director. Takeuchi is famously known for the Rock Lee vs Gaara fight in Naruto. We previously also had the chance to interview CyberAgent’s Takahiro Yamauchi, who talked about the company and its goal of creating “high-quality Japanese animation works that can be accepted globally.”

The main staff for the anime includes:

  • Director: Tetsuya Takeuchi
  • Character Design: Keigo Sasaki
  • Production: Cypic

Previously, the anime revealed the following voice cast:

Azami is a sorcerer affiliated with the Kamunabi and one of the few people aware of Chihiro’s existence, which had been kept secret. He is described as one of the organization’s strongest members, possessing extraordinary physical strength capable of overwhelming opponents with devastating blows.

Nakamura shared the following full comments about joining the series:

“Although there are still relatively few characters, I paid close attention to how he balances with the others.

This should really pay off when a lot more characters start appearing later on…!

I approached the role viewing him as someone who is serious, yet carries a bit of a dry demeanor.”

On being cast and his impressions of the anime, he said:

“I read the manga when I auditioned for the role, and I felt like it really embodied the recent ‘spirit of Jump.’ I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next, so I ended up reading every volume that had been released!

I’m incredibly excited to see all those memorable scenes brought to life in the anime.”

Nakamura also commented on the original manga:

“Although it starts off with a dark atmosphere, the protagonist’s convictions and goals are clearly defined, making it really fun to read.

The action may be what catches people’s attention first, but the worldbuilding, artistic sensibility, and unfolding story are equally captivating.”

On Azami’s appeal, he added:

“He strikes me as a realist who serves as a contrast to the romanticist Shiba.

He’s compassionate, yet there’s something interesting about how he stays slightly detached.

I think he’s a character whose appeal will become increasingly apparent as the story progresses.”

Asked to describe the series in one phrase, Nakamura answered:

“Incandescent!”

The anime is directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi, with Keigo Sasaki handling character design and Cypic producing the animation. Shochiku and CyberAgent lead the production committee.

Following premiere screenings at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Japan Expo in Paris, and AnimagiC in Germany, the anime also screened at Otakon in Washington, D.C. on August 2, before concluding the tour at Anime NYC later that month. Part 2 of the tour is set for upcoming conventions in Johannesburg and Melbourne.

The story follows the young Chihiro, who was trained by his father to become a swordsmith. After his father is murderer, Chihiro sets on a path of revenge to avenge him with yakuza and sorcerers standing against him. The official synopsis:

Flames of resolve, kindled by hatred.

Chihiro Rokuhira is a boy who aspires to become a swordsmith, and took daily training under his
father Kunishige, a renowned swordsmith. Their days, once filled with laughter, are brutally torn apart
by an attack from the mysterious sorcerer organization, the Hishaku.

What is stolen from them are the six Enchanted Blades—swords of immense power capable of
shaping the fate of the nation—and the gentle, warm life they once shared.

From that day on, everything changed. In a world engulfed in darkness, Chihiro takes up Enten, the
seventh Enchanted Blade left behind by his father, and sets out on a blood-soaked path of revenge.

The first teaser trailer for the anime exceeded 6 million views within the first 24 hours, and you can check it out below.
