Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court has released a teaser trailer for its second cour, which will begin airing in January 2027.

The new episodes covering the The First Royal Outing arc were announced immediately after Cour 1 finished, and they are set to continue the story of Kou Reirin and Shu Keigetsu. Their relationship has now developed into a friendship, and the pair will be traveling to the southern territory governed by the Shu family.

The cast members joining Though I Am an Inept Villainess in Cour 2 are:

• Yuichi Nakamura as Kou Keikou, Reirin’s eldest brother
• Shunichi Toki as Kou Keishou, Reirin’s second-eldest brother
• Chiaki Kobayashi as Unran, who was described as ‘the young leader of a village in the southern territories who becomes an important figure as the story expands.‘

Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court is a Japanese light novel series by Satsuki Nakamura. It was first published online on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in July 2020. Later that year, in December, Ichijinsha released the print edition featuring illustrations by YukiKana. Around the same time, a manga adaptation illustrated by Ei Ohitsuji began serialization in Monthly Comic Zero Sum.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga in English, describing the story for the former:
In the Kingdom of Ei, five clans put forth their maidens as imperial consorts—but only one will be crowned empress. Just when frail and beautiful “court butterfly” Kou Reirin seems poised to marry the crown prince, jealous “court rat” Shu Keigetsu steals her body! Reirin wakes up in the dungeons as the conspirator, and things look dire…or do they? Now that she’s got a robust new body, not even the looming threat of execution can stop her!

We recently had the chance to interview Hana Hishikawa, the voice of Leelee.
