Happy Kanako’s Killer Life TV Anime Adaptation Officially Announced for April 2027

Toshiya Wakabayashi’s Happy Kanako’s Killer Life is officially getting a TV anime adaptation in April 2027, as announced by TOHO animation.

The announcement follows a teaser from TOHO animation, which confirmed that it would reveal a new TV anime on October 17 at midnight JST. Ahead of the reveal, the company released a mysterious image featuring otters.

Shinji Takamatsu, known for works including Gintama and Kochikame, is directing and writing the anime. Yoshiyuki Okubo serves as character designer and chief animation director, with Drive handling the animation production. Hana Tamegai will voice protagonist Kanako Nishino, with Ryota Suzuki as her senior coworker Sakurai and Junichi Suwabe as the company president.

Happy Kanako’s Killer Life follows Nishino Kanako, an office worker who quits an abusive workplace and unexpectedly applies for a job at an agency employing contract killers. Despite initially believing she could never kill anyone, Kanako quickly discovers that she has an extraordinary natural talent for assassination. You can see the teaser visual below.

The full-color comedy manga is written and illustrated by Wakabayashi, also known for Tsuredure Children. Nine volumes have been released in Japan as of May 2026 under the Seikaisha Comics label. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English, describing the story:
Nishino Kanako sure hates her job, and is only too happy to snag the first new gig that comes her way. She never expected that her interview would be at an agency for contract killers…or that she’d be really, really good at bumping people off! Kanako doesn’t have a ton of self-confidence, and adjusting to her new life as an assassin isn’t the easiest. Will she ever earn the respect of Sakurai, her prickly but kinda hot new coworker? Find out in this dangerously funny, full-color manga!

The series has already received a live-action adaptation starring Non as Kanako and Taisuke Fujigaya as her fellow assassin Sakurai. The first season debuted on DMM TV in 2025, while a second season began streaming in September 2026 and concluded in October.
